Inception – The Ingenuity of Christopher Nolan

Inception by Christopher Nolan is the greatest treasure Hollywood has to offer for lucid dreamers like me. The movie immediately caught my attention, “dream within a dream”, what a wonderful concept and imagination!
The complex, intriguing, and mind-blowing work of art to date has had a deep impact on me. Nolan has researched & worked on the drafts of the movie for almost 10 years. It goes to show how much time & effort has gone into every single frame and dialogue of the film.
Leonardo DiCaprio has as usual done a marvelous job in engaging the audience and he had even contributed to the script and helped in bringing his character alive with complexity and emotions.
Though I had to watch the movie three times to fully grasp the events and truly fall in love with the characters, it has since occupied a lot of space in my heart and my diaries. Despite watching the movie a hundred times, it never gets old or tired.
It had kept me at the edge of my seat and astounded me; I had to pause the movie a couple of times in the middle and process what had just happened.
Dom and Arthur are expert dream extractors who hack themselves into the subconscious of others and steal information.
They meet Saito, a multi-millionaire who hires them for an extremely dangerous mission to plant an idea in a competitor’s heir, Robert’s mind. Dom assembles a team consisting of an impersonator, Eames, a pharmacologist, Yusuf, and an architect, Ariadne. (When we put together the first letter of the character names, it spells out “DREAMS”)
The story has tons of surprises stored in its 2 hours 28 minutes runtime.
My favorite scene involves Cobb explaining to Ari about the properties of dreams in a café, “We never really remember the beginning of a dream” and unexpectedly asks her, “Do you remember how we got here?”
She looks around with disbelief, “We are dreaming?” and the whole place starts exploding.
This is just one of the many twists Nolan takes us through in the movie.
But minute concepts like the Penrose steps and totems are equally incredible. The process by which they build an entire city and a winter landscape in the dream is mind-boggling and every scene is filled with anticipation and excitement to discover something new.
The characters enter deep into the dream levels and we enter deeper inside Cobb’s mind and the plot. It is filled with secrets & actions.
Inception has one of the most thrilling climaxes of all time.
Time by Hans Zimmer begins to play and emotions run through me like the train in the middle of the road. The ambiguous ending and the blank screen make you contemplate if you should replay the entire movie again.
